Station History
Originally opened on November 3, 1925, the station was known simply as Tojiin Station. On March 20, 2020, it underwent a significant renaming to Tojiin Ritsumeikan University Station. This change was made to clearly reflect its close proximity to the main Kinugasa Campus of Ritsumeikan University. Interestingly, the train operator Keifuku considered a shorter name but ultimately decided against it, inadvertently creating the longest-named train station in Japan with 26 hiragana characters.
