Station History
Opened on November 18, 1938, Gaienmae Station has a rich history, having served Tokyo's commuters for over 80 years. Initially known as Aoyama-yonchōme until 1939, it was renamed to reflect its proximity to the Outer Garden of Meiji Shrine. The station features two side platforms and an underground structure, efficiently handling a significant daily ridership, which was approximately 78,309 in FY2016.
