Location & Access
Uji Station (Keihan) is conveniently located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, serving as the terminal station for the Keihan Railway Uji Line. While there is another Uji Station operated by JR West, the Keihan station is often referred to as Keihan Uji Station for clarity. The two stations are approximately 850 meters apart, separated by the Uji River. The station is a popular hub, especially on holidays, bustling with tourists eager to explore the area. A bus terminal is also available, providing further connectivity.
Railway Lines
This station is exclusively served by the Keihan Electric Railway's Uji Line, where it functions as the terminus. The preceding station on the line is Mimurodo, leading towards Chūshojima. With a single island platform, the station efficiently handles passenger traffic for this scenic route.
Station History & Design
Opened in 1913, Uji Station boasts a distinctive station building designed by architect Hiroyuki Wakabayashi. Its architectural merit was recognized with the prestigious Good Design Award in 1996. Further acclaim followed in 2000 when the station was selected as one of the "Best 100 Stations in Kinki Region" by the Kinki District Transport Bureau, highlighting its importance and quality.
Travel Tips
Due to its popularity, especially during peak tourist seasons, Uji Station can get quite crowded. To manage the influx of visitors, temporary ticket counters are sometimes set up in the station square. Travelers should be aware of the distinction between Keihan Uji Station and JR Uji Station when planning their journeys to avoid confusion.
