Location & Access

Sangenjaya Station is strategically located in the Sangenjaya district of Setagaya ward, Tokyo. It sits at the confluence of two major highways, National Route 246 and Setagaya-dori, positioning it just outside the bustling central area of Shibuya. The station is directly connected to Carrot Tower, a multi-purpose building managed by Tokyu Corporation, offering convenient access to shopping and dining.

While the station's official address is Taishido, the name "Sangenjaya" refers to the area south of the station. The Den-en-toshi Line runs underground, while the Setagaya Line operates at grade, providing different perspectives of the surrounding urban landscape.

Railway Lines

Sangenjaya Station is a significant interchange, serving both the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line and the Tokyu Setagaya Line. It acts as the terminus for the Setagaya Line, which is notable for being selected as one of the "100 Best Stations in Kanto." Although both lines serve the station, transfers between them require exiting the ticket gates, and separate fares apply. The Den-en-toshi Line connects Sangenjaya to Shibuya and extends to Chuo-Rinkan, while the Setagaya Line offers local service towards Shimo-Takaido.

Travel Tips

When planning your journey through Sangenjaya, be mindful of the separate fare system and ticket gate transfers between the Den-en-toshi Line and the Setagaya Line. The direct connection to Carrot Tower makes it a convenient spot for a quick meal or some shopping before or after your train ride. Its location just outside Shibuya's core makes it a good base for exploring both the vibrant city center and the more local, charming atmosphere of Setagaya.
