Location & Access
Higashi-Kokura Station (東小倉駅) is situated in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyūshū, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Specifically, it can be found at Takahama 1-chome. While it no longer handles active train services, its historical location was strategically important within the city's railway network.
Railway Lines
The station was primarily a freight terminal on the Kagoshima Main Line, operated by Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight). Historically, it also served as the terminal for the Kokura Railway, which later became part of the Hitahikosan Line. Although the station is not officially closed, it currently sees no train traffic, neither passenger nor freight.
Station History
Higashi-Kokura Station opened on April 1, 1915, as a passenger and freight station for the Kokura Railway. In 1943, it was reestablished on the Kagoshima Main Line after the Japanese Government Railways purchased the Kokura Railway, integrating with the previously established Tomino signal box from 1904. Passenger services ceased on November 19, 1956, and the freight-only section of the Hitahikosan Line closed in 1962. Freight operations on the Kagoshima Main Line continued until March 23, 2002, when the new Kitakyūshū Freight Terminal opened, rendering Higashi-Kokura obsolete for active service.
Travel Tips
As Higashi-Kokura Station no longer handles any train services, it is not a functional point for travel. Travelers looking to explore Kitakyūshū should utilize other active stations within the city's extensive railway network for passenger transport.
