Good People & Good Coffee (the name is also the sign) is a tiny, one-man coffee stand in Higashiyama with a tight focus on craft. The owner and sole barista serves a well-executed menu of espresso drinks and hand-drip coffee, primarily using blends with a Central American profile. The space is small and filled with music, reflecting the owner's personal taste.

Guests consistently praise the quality of the coffee, with many calling the espresso, flat white, and iced long-black among the best in the neighborhood. The friendly, chatty owner is a key part of the experience for many regulars. The atmosphere is relaxed, though the space is very compact, with just a few seats and a small terrace.

The shop's small size and specific rules are the main points of criticism. With only six seats, there's a strict one-drink-per-seat policy, and the owner can be brusque with customers who linger too long or use laptops. The terrace permits smoking, and there is little to no food available.

Prices are considered reasonable for the quality. Reviewers recently paid around ¥450 for an Iced Long Black and between ¥450 and ¥500 for a flat white or café latte. A typical visit costs under ¥1,000, which most find to be good value for expertly prepared coffee.

  • Getting There: The shop is a 1-minute walk from the east exit of Ikejiri-Ohashi Station.
  • Reservations: Not accepted. This is a walk-in only establishment.
  • Payment: Cash only. Credit cards are not accepted.
  • Seating: Very limited, with just 6 seats at a counter and in a small gallery space. Takeout is a popular option.
  • Workspace: The owner discourages long stays with laptops or for studying. A one-drink-per-person policy is enforced.
  • Smoking: Smoking is permitted on the outdoor terrace.
  • Parking: No parking available.
