Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station is conveniently situated in Kankijichō, Shimogyō-ku, Kyoto. Its central location makes it an excellent gateway for exploring the historical and cultural treasures of Kyoto. The station's elevated structure provides easy access to its two side platforms.
Railway Lines
Operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) with station code JR-E02, Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station is served by the Sagano Line, which is the popular nickname for a section of the Sanin Main Line. This line connects passengers to various key destinations, including Kyoto Station and the scenic Arashiyama area.
Station History
This relatively new station opened its doors on March 16, 2019. Its inauguration marked the first new station on the Sanin Main Line in 11 years, following Kajikuri-Gōdaichi Station in 2008. The station has quickly become an important transportation hub, serving an average of 7,570 daily passengers in FY 2023.

When visiting Kyoto, Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station provides excellent connectivity. Its modern facilities and strategic location make it a great starting point for exploring nearby attractions such as the Kyoto Railway Museum and the Kyoto Aquarium, both within walking distance.
