Location & Access
Shimo-Itabashi Station is conveniently located in Ikebukuro Honcho, Toshima, Tokyo. Although its name translates to "Lower Itabashi Station," it's actually situated within Toshima Ward, not Itabashi Ward. The station provides easy access to the surrounding residential and commercial areas, making it a functional hub for daily commuters.
Railway Lines
The station is served exclusively by the Tobu Tojo Line, a vital artery connecting Ikebukuro with various destinations to the northwest of Tokyo. Shimo-Itabashi is the third station from Ikebukuro, with a distance of 2.0 km from the major terminal. It features two side platforms and two tracks, facilitating smooth local train operations.
Station History
Shimo-Itabashi Station first opened its doors on May 1, 1914, making it over a century old. It underwent a significant rebuilding in 1935, adapting to the growing needs of the Tokyo metropolitan area. With a daily ridership of 15,728 in fiscal year 2015, it continues to be an important local station.
