Location & Access

Ōokashōmae Station was situated in Wakayanagi, Ōbayashi Higashisengari, Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture. As part of a rural rail line, its primary function was to serve the local communities along the Kurihara Den'en Railway Line.

Railway Lines

The station was part of the Kurihara Den'en Railway Line, a 25.7 km (16.0 mi) rural railway that connected Ishikoshi Station (with a connection to the Tōhoku Main Line) to Hosokura Mine Park Mae Station. The line, affectionately known as Kuriden, was originally built to transport ore from the Hosokura Mine, which closed in 1988.

Station History

Ōokashōmae Station was unique as it was the only station opened after the Kurihara Electric Railway rebranded itself as the Kurihara Den'en Railway and became a third-sector company. It was established approximately six months after this change. The station, along with the entire Kurihara Den'en Railway Line, ceased operations and was abandoned on March 31, 2007.

Travel Tips

While Ōokashōmae Station is no longer operational, the former route of the Kurihara Den'en Railway Line offers a glimpse into the region's industrial past. Visitors interested in railway history or the natural beauty of Miyagi Prefecture might find the area around the former line an interesting place to explore, perhaps by cycling or walking parts of the old route.
