Location & Access
Matsugishi Station, located in Chōshi, Chiba Prefecture, serves as a vital transportation hub for both local residents and visitors to the area. While not a major tourist destination itself, its strategic position as a junction station makes it an important point for connecting to various parts of the region. In 2019, the station recorded an average of 468 daily passengers, indicating its role in daily commutes.
Railway Lines
Matsugishi Station is officially designated as the terminal point of the Narita Line, though all Narita Line trains continue through the Sōbu Main Line to Chōshi Station. The station is primarily served by the Sōbu Main Line, which is its official所属線 (shozokusen, or 'belonging line'). Despite its junction status, express trains typically pass through Matsugishi without stopping. The station features one side platform and one island platform, providing efficient service for its two lines.
Station History
Matsugishi Station has a long history, having first opened its doors on June 1, 1897. Over its more than a century of operation, it has evolved with the changing railway landscape of Japan, maintaining its role as a crucial junction for the JR East network in Chiba Prefecture.
Travel Tips
While special express trains do not stop at Matsugishi, it's an essential transfer point for those traveling between the Sōbu Main Line and the Narita Line. Travelers should note that the special exception allowing round-trip travel outside the ticketed section for trains passing through junction stations does not apply to the Matsugishi – Chōshi section. Always check train schedules in advance for the most up-to-date information.
