While officially situated in Tajiri, Sennan District, Osaka Prefecture, the northern part of its platforms extends into the neighboring city of Izumisano. Railway Lines
The station is a joint operation between two major railway companies: Nankai Electric Railway and West Japan Railway Company (JR West). Nankai operates the Nankai Airport Line, with its station code NK32, offering services like the Airport Express and the Rapi:t limited express, connecting directly to Namba in Osaka. JR West operates the Kansai Airport Line, with station code JR-S47, providing services such as the Kansai Airport Rapid and the Haruka limited express, linking the airport to destinations like Tennoji, Kyoto, and Yasu.
Station History
Kansai Airport Station opened its doors on June 15, 1994, coinciding with the opening of Kansai International Airport itself. Since its inception, it has played a pivotal role in connecting the airport to the wider Kansai region. In 2019, the station saw significant daily passenger numbers, with JR West handling 14,360 passengers and Nankai Electric Railway serving 16,698 passengers, highlighting its importance as a busy transport hub.
