Location & Access

Higuchi Station is situated in Chikusei, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. While its official address is in Orimoto, the station is conveniently located near the border with Higuchi, making it accessible to residents of both areas. It serves as a vital link for local commuters and travelers exploring the scenic Mooka Line.

Railway Lines

The station is exclusively served by the Mooka Line, operated by the Mooka Railway, a third-sector railway company. Higuchi Station is positioned 6.6 km from Shimodate, with Orimoto being the preceding station towards Shimodate and Kugeta the following station towards Motegi. It features a single side platform and one track, reflecting its status as an unstaffed station.

Station History

Higuchi Station officially opened its doors on March 14, 1992. A unique aspect of this station is its name: "ひぐち駅" (Higuchi-eki) is intentionally written in hiragana (Japanese phonetic script) rather than kanji. This decision was made to prevent confusion with another station named Higuchi on the Chichibu Railway, ensuring clarity for passengers and railway operations.

Travel Tips

As an unstaffed station, travelers should be aware that there are no personnel on-site. It's advisable to check train schedules in advance, especially for those planning to explore the Mooka Line's charming rural landscapes. In fiscal year 2018, the station saw an average of 28 daily passengers, highlighting its role as a local transport hub.
