Station History
Hamaderakōen Station boasts a rich history, having originally opened as Hamadera Station on October 1, 1897. The current station building, designed by the renowned architect Tatsuno Kingo, was constructed in 1907. This wooden, single-story structure was registered as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 1998. Until its operational retirement in 2016, it held the distinction of being the oldest active private railway station building in Japan. Since then, the historic building has been repurposed for use as a gallery and other community functions, preserving its architectural legacy. Hamaderakōen Station was also selected as one of the '100 Stations of Kinki' in the first selection.
