Location & Access
Arako Station (AN04) is situated in Kira-cho, Nakagawa Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. As part of the Nagoya Rinkai Rapid Transit's Aonami Line, it offers convenient access to various parts of Nagoya. The station's strategic location makes it an integral part of the city's public transportation network, connecting residents and visitors to key destinations.
Railway Lines
Arako Station is exclusively served by the Aonami Line, officially known as the Nishi-Nagoyakō Line (West Nagoya Port Line). This commuter railway, operated by Nagoya Rinkai Rapid Transit, links Nagoya Station with Kinjō-futō Station. Notably, the section between Nagoya and Arako Station is unique as it handles both passenger traffic for the Aonami Line and freight traffic for the Japan Freight Railway Company, a remnant of its past as a freight branch line of the Tokaido Main Line.
Station History
The Aonami Line, which Arako Station is part of, has an interesting history. Originally a freight branch line of the Tokaido Main Line, it was converted for passenger use in October 2004. The line's name, 'Aonami,' is a clever combination of 'ao' (blue, the company's color), 'na' for Nagoya, and 'mi' for Minato ward, also translating to 'blue waves.' Since 2017, the Aonami Line has become the primary rapid transit access to popular attractions like Legoland Japan Resort and SCMaglev and Railway Park, both located near the line's terminus at Kinjō-futō.
Travel Tips
When traveling to or from Arako Station, consider its connection to major attractions. If you're heading to Legoland Japan Resort or the SCMaglev and Railway Park, the Aonami Line is your most direct route. The line operates with 1000 series rolling stock and boasts a daily ridership of over 43,000, indicating its efficiency and popularity among commuters and tourists alike. Be aware that the section to Nagoya Station also carries freight, adding a unique operational aspect to your journey.
