Location & Access
Uzen-Zennami Station (羽前前波駅) is situated in the city of Shinjō, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Located at 38°44′52.00″N 140°12′33.91″E, this station serves the local community within the broader Yamagata region. As an unstaffed station, travelers should be aware that there are no personnel on-site to assist with ticketing or inquiries.
Railway Lines
The station is exclusively served by the JR East Rikuu West Line, connecting it to other points along this route. It is located 10.6 kilometers from Shinjō Station. The preceding station on the line towards Shinjō is Masukata, while Tsuya is the following station towards Sakata. Both local and rapid services on the Rikuu West Line previously stopped here, but as of January 16, 2026, all trains now pass through Uzen-Zennami Station without stopping.
Station History
Uzen-Zennami Station first opened its doors to passengers on September 1, 1966. For decades, it served as a local stop on the Rikuu West Line. However, a significant change in its operational status occurred on January 16, 2026, when all train services began to bypass the station. This means that while the physical station structure remains, it no longer functions as a boarding or alighting point for passengers.
Travel Tips
Given that all trains now pass through Uzen-Zennami Station, it is no longer possible to use this station for travel. Visitors wishing to explore the Shinjō area should plan to use alternative stations on the Rikuu West Line, such as Shinjō Station itself, which offers more comprehensive services and connections.
