Tsurusaki Station is conveniently located in Ōita City, Ōita Prefecture, making it a key transportation hub for the area. While the station itself is at grade, access to the single island platform is via a footbridge. For cyclists, a designated parking area is available. The station also features a staffed ticket window, known as Midori no Madoguchi, though its operation is outsourced.

The station is primarily served by the Nippō Main Line, a crucial artery connecting various parts of Kyushu. It is operated by JR Kyushu for passenger services. Historically, Tsurusaki Station also functioned as a freight depot for the Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight). Although still registered as a freight station, freight train services have ceased since at least 2017, with it now acting as a temporary handling station for carload freight.

Station History

Tsurusaki Station first opened its doors to passengers on April 1, 1914. Over its long history, it has played a significant role in the local community's transportation needs. In fiscal year 2016, the station recorded an average of 2,006 daily passengers, ranking 91st among JR Kyushu stations.
