Station History
Opened on December 1, 1931, Tōna Station has a long history. It operated as an unstaffed station since 1958. However, the station faced a significant challenge when it was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. Following the disaster, the line segment, including Tōna Station, was suspended. A decision was made to relocate and rebuild the station approximately 500 meters inland. The new station, rebuilt on the relocated line, reopened on May 30, 2015, marking a remarkable recovery and resilience.
