Location & Access
Tokorogi Station was situated in Akitakata, Hiroshima Prefecture, specifically in Takamiya-cho Funaki Kamitokorogi. While the station itself is now defunct, its former location offers a glimpse into the rural landscapes of this part of Japan. Akitakata is known for its natural beauty and historical sites, making it a destination for those interested in exploring beyond the major urban centers.
Railway Lines
The station was an integral part of the JR West Sankō Line, a railway line that traversed the scenic Chūgoku region. The Sankō Line was known for its picturesque routes, often following rivers and passing through mountainous terrain. Tokorogi Station featured a single side platform and one track, characteristic of many smaller, rural stations in Japan.
Station History
Tokorogi Station first opened its doors to passengers in 1956, serving the local communities along the Sankō Line for over six decades. However, due to declining ridership and increasing operational costs, the entire Sankō Line, including Tokorogi Station, was officially closed on April 1, 2018. This closure marked the end of an era for many communities that relied on the line for transportation.
