Location & Access
Takatori Station is situated in Suma-ku, Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. While primarily a local train stop, its location offers access to a unique architectural landmark. The Takatori Catholic Church, designed by the internationally renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, is just a fifteen-minute walk from the station, making it an interesting side trip for visitors.
Railway Lines
The station serves the JR West San'yō Main Line, which is also known as the JR Kobe Line in this section. Only local trains stop at Takatori Station. The station features an unusual layout with one island platform serving two local tracks. On the northern side, there are additional tracks for Special Rapid Service (Shin-Kaisoku), express trains, and freight trains. The Kobe-bound express track is notably far from the platform, separated by multiple tracks and a freight loading area, making it often out of sight.
Travel Tips
For travelers interested in architecture, a visit to Shigeru Ban's Takatori Catholic Church is highly recommended. The station's unique track layout is also a point of interest for railway enthusiasts. In a historical context, Takatori Station played a role in scientific research; seismic waves recorded here during the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake were used by Riken geologists to analyze the seismic response of reinforced concrete structures.
