Location & Access

Shizukuishi Station is situated in the town of Shizukuishi, within Iwate Prefecture, Japan. It serves as a vital transportation point for both local residents and visitors to the area. The station is operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and is unique among Akita Shinkansen stops for being located in a town rather than a city.

Railway Lines

The station is primarily on the Tazawako Line, which is also utilized by the Akita Shinkansen, a 'Mini-Shinkansen' service. While not all Akita Shinkansen 'Komachi' trains stop here, a portion of them do, connecting Shizukuishi directly to major cities like Morioka and Tokyo. Approximately half of the local Tazawako Line trains originating from Morioka terminate at Shizukuishi Station.

Station History

Shizukuishi Station officially opened its doors on June 15, 1921, making it over a century old. Over the years, it has evolved to accommodate modern railway services, including the integration of the Akita Shinkansen. The station features one side platform and an island platform, with a total of two tracks. It is a staffed station, offering 'Midori no Madoguchi' (ticket office) services for passenger convenience.
