Location & Access
Shizugawa Station is located in Minamisanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Originally a railway station, it now serves as a bus stop for the Kesennuma Line BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) service, providing essential transportation for the local community.
Railway Lines
Prior to its destruction, Shizugawa Station was part of the JR East Kesennuma Line. The line connected Kogota with Kesennuma, and Shizugawa was situated between Rikuzen-Togura and Shizuhama stations. Today, the BRT service continues to operate along a similar route, maintaining connectivity for passengers.
Station History
Shizugawa Station first opened in 1977. It served as a vital transportation hub for the area, with an average daily ridership of 269 passengers in fiscal year 2010. Tragically, the station was completely destroyed by the devastating 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. In the aftermath, JR East replaced the railway service with a provisional bus rapid transit line to restore public transport to the affected region.
