Location & Access
Shinohara Station is situated in Ōmihachiman, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. While it serves the city, it's also the closest station in a straight line to Ryuo Town in Gamo District, which lacks its own railway lines. However, due to the inconvenience of rapid services not stopping here, many Ryuo residents opt to use the more accessible Yasu Station or Ōmihachiman Station instead.
Railway Lines
The station is operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and is part of the Tokaido Main Line, specifically within the popular "Biwako Line" section. It is identified by the station code JR-A20. From Shinohara, the preceding station towards Kyoto is Yasu, and the following station towards Nagahama is Ōmi-Hachiman.
Station History
Shinohara Station officially opened its doors to passengers on April 20, 1921. Over a century later, it continues to serve the local community. In fiscal year 2023, the station recorded an average of 3,966 daily passengers, highlighting its role in regional transportation.
Travel Tips
If you're planning to visit areas around Ōmihachiman or Ryuo, Shinohara Station offers local train access. However, for faster connections or if you're coming from further afield, consider checking schedules for Yasu Station or Ōmihachiman Station, especially if you require rapid services like the Shinkaisoku (New Rapid) trains, which do not stop at Shinohara.
