Shinmei Station (神明駅, Shinmei-eki) was situated in Kaminokuni, a town located in the Hiyama Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. While the station itself is no longer operational, its former location offers a glimpse into the rural landscapes of Hokkaido's southwestern region. Travelers interested in exploring this area would typically access it via local road networks, as the railway line it once served has also been discontinued.
Railway Lines
The station was exclusively part of the Esashi Line, a railway line operated by Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido). The Esashi Line connected Goryōkaku Station in Hakodate with Esashi Station, traversing the scenic coastal areas of southwestern Hokkaido. Shinmei Station featured a single side platform and one track, characteristic of many smaller, rural stations in Japan.
Station History
Shinmei Station first opened its doors to passengers on January 25, 1957, providing a vital link for the local community. However, like many rural lines facing declining ridership and increasing maintenance costs, the Esashi Line, including Shinmei Station, ceased operations.
