Station History
The station occupies the site of the former Oshima-Ōno Station, which opened on December 10, 1902. It was known as Hongō from 1902 to 1942, then Oshima-Ōno until 2016. The station underwent extensive rebuilding and enlargement to become Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station in March 2016, specifically to accommodate the new Hokkaido Shinkansen. This transformation solidified its role as a modern and essential part of Japan's railway network.
