Sendai Station first opened its doors on December 15, 1887, making it over 130 years old. Its long history reflects its enduring importance as a central point for rail travel in the region. Today, it is operated by JR East, Sendai Airport Transit, and Sendai Subway, handling a substantial volume of daily passengers, with 91,278 daily users for JR East and 55,614 for Sendai Subway recorded in FY2018.
