Location & Access
Sanjō-Keihan Station is strategically located in Higashiyama ward, Kyoto, at 35°0′33″N 135°46′25″E. Operated by the Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau, it serves as a crucial transportation hub in the city. The station is directly connected via an underground concourse to Sanjō Station, which serves the Keihan Main Line and Ōtō Line (station code KH40), making it an excellent gateway for exploring Kyoto and beyond. Bus stops are also readily available for further local travel.
Railway Lines
The station is a key stop on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tōzai Line, identified by the station code T11. It features one island platform with two tracks, efficiently handling the daily passenger flow. The preceding station on the Tōzai Line is Higashiyama (T10) towards Rokujizō, and the following station is Kyōto Shiyakusho-mae (T12) towards Uzumasa Tenjingawa.
Station History
Sanjō-Keihan Station officially opened on October 12, 1997. Before the subway's inauguration, the location was served by Sanjō Station or Keishin Sanjō Station during the Keihan Keishin Line era. In fiscal year 2024, the station recorded an average daily ridership of 24,994 passengers, highlighting its importance in Kyoto's public transport network.
Travel Tips
While there's an underground connection to the Keihan lines, travelers transferring between the Keihan Line and the Ōtsu Line area (including the Keishin Line) via Sanjō-Keihan Station typically need to purchase a ticket to Sanjō-Keihan, exit, and then buy a new ticket for their onward journey. However, direct transfers are possible for those holding commuter passes.
