Location & Access
Sakugiguchi Station was situated in Ōnan, within the Ōchi District of Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Its precise location was Uedaagehata, Ōnan-chō, Ōchi-gun. While the station no longer operates, its former site can be found at coordinates 34°51′37″N 132°42′25″E. As a rural station, it served the local community in this scenic part of western Japan.
Railway Lines
The station was part of the Sankō Line, a railway line operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The Sankō Line was known for its picturesque route through the mountainous and riverine landscapes of Shimane and Hiroshima Prefectures. Sakugiguchi Station was one of the many stops along this line, connecting local residents to larger towns and cities.
Station History
Sakugiguchi Station first opened its doors in 1963, providing vital transportation links to the area. For over five decades, it served as a local hub. However, due to declining ridership and increasing operational costs, the entire Sankō Line, including Sakugiguchi Station, ceased operations on April 1, 2018. This marked the end of an era for many communities along the line.
