Station History
Originally known as Saga Station, this railway hub boasts historical significance as one of Kyoto's southernmost railway stations. Established in 1897 as the eighth stop on the San'in Main Line connecting Kyoto and Sonobe, it was absorbed into JR West on March 25, 1910. At that time, it already served an impressive 6,000 passengers daily. The station was renamed Saga-Arashiyama in 1994, reflecting its close ties to the renowned Arashiyama area.
