Station History

Opened on November 21, 1910, Otaruchikkō Station has a rich history deeply intertwined with the development of Otaru Port. It was originally established to transport materials for the construction of Otaru Port, highlighting its foundational role in the region's infrastructure. In its earlier days, it was a large-scale station boasting a marshalling yard (freight yard) and an engine shed. Today, the former marshalling yard area has been redeveloped into commercial facilities, transforming the station into a modern hub while retaining its historical significance.
