Location & Access
Oroku Station (小禄駅, おろく) is situated in Tahara 3-chome, Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It is an integral part of the Okinawa Urban Monorail, also known as Yui Rail, which is the sole public rail system serving the cities of Naha and Urasoe. The station is identified by the station number 3 on the line. Its original provisional name during the planning stages was "Tabaru Station."
Railway Lines
Oroku Station is exclusively served by the Okinawa Urban Monorail (Yui Rail). This straddle-beam, Alweg-type monorail line operates daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., with trains running every 4–15 minutes. All services stop at every station, ensuring easy access to various points along the 17 km (11 mi) line. The Yui Rail is notable as the first rail line on Okinawa since World War II, connecting key locations including Naha Airport Station, the westernmost rail station in Japan.
Station History
The planning for the Okinawa Urban Monorail began in 1972, the same year Okinawa was returned to Japan. The monorail's route was finalized in 1977, with an initial target opening year of 1987. However, complexities involving the revamp of city bus routes and negotiations with bus operators for compensation delayed construction until 1996. Oroku Station, along with the rest of the initial line, officially opened on August 10, 2003. The line has since been extended to Urasoe in 2019.
