Station History

Orio Station has a long and rich history, having first opened its doors on February 28, 1891, making it over 130 years old. Historically, a rotary in front of the former East Exit once housed the Orio Tram Stop, the terminus of the Nishitetsu Kitakyushu Line, highlighting its enduring role as a central transit point. The station's structure is a mix of elevated sections for the Kagoshima Main Line and at-grade sections for the Chikuhō Main Line, reflecting its evolution over time.
