An interesting linguistic note is that while the town's name is pronounced "Tsuruta," the station's name is pronounced "Tsuruda." The prefix "Mutsu" (an old provincial name) was added to distinguish it from another Tsuruta Station (pronounced "Tsuruta") on the JR Nikkō Line in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture.
