Mukawa Station has a long history, having first opened its doors to passengers on October 1, 1913. For many decades, it was part of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) network. Following the privatization of JNR on April 1, 1987, the station transitioned to being under the control of JR Hokkaido, which continues to operate it today.
