The station officially opened on April 30, 1912. Interestingly, it is said to be named after a prominent historical figure bearing the surname Mizuta. In the early Heisei period, until the early 1990s, there were even morning rush-hour trains originating from Mizuta Station bound for Kawaramachi, highlighting its past significance as a starting point for commuter services.
