Location & Access
Minami-Shari Station was situated in Shari, Hokkaido, specifically in the Kawakami area of Shari-gun. While it is no longer operational, its location along the Senmō Main Line placed it in a scenic part of eastern Hokkaido, known for its natural beauty and proximity to Shiretoko National Park.
Railway Lines
The station served the Senmō Main Line, a picturesque railway route operated by Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido). This line connects Abashiri on the Sea of Okhotsk coast with Higashi-Kushiro, offering travelers stunning views of the Hokkaido landscape, including wetlands and coastal areas. Minami-Shari was located 44.1 km from Abashiri.
Station History
Minami-Shari Station opened its doors on October 1, 1962, providing a vital link for local residents and visitors to the area. For many years, it served as an unstaffed station, reflecting the rural nature of its surroundings. In its later years, specifically in 2012, it saw only two daily services. Unfortunately, like many stations in remote areas of Japan facing declining ridership, Minami-Shari Station ceased operations and was officially closed on March 13, 2021.
