Station History

Matsuo-taisha Station first opened its doors on November 9, 1928, coinciding with the launch of the Arashiyama Line. Initially, it was known as Matsuo Jinja-mae Station, a direct reference to Matsuo Shrine. In 1948, its name was shortened to Matsuo Station. The current name, Matsuo-taisha Station, was adopted on December 21, 2013. Interestingly, while the shrine's official reading is 'Matsunoo Taisha', the station uses the more common 'Matsuo Taisha' pronunciation.
