This decision was made at its opening to avoid confusion with the now-closed Matsushiro Station, which shared the same kanji characters, and to foster a more approachable image within the local community. The station building also integrates the Michi-no-eki Matsudai Furusato Kaikan, a roadside station, offering convenient amenities and local products to travelers.
