Location & Access
Kōyodo Station was situated in Miyoshi, Hiroshima Prefecture, specifically in Monden, Sakugi-chō. While the station itself is no longer operational, its former location can be found at coordinates 34°49′38″N 132°42′49″E. During its operational years, the station offered connections to a local bus stop, providing a link to the surrounding area.
Railway Lines
The station was part of the Sankō Line (F), operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The Sankō Line was known for its scenic route through rural Hiroshima and Shimane prefectures, often following the Gōnokawa River. However, due to declining ridership and high operating costs, the entire Sankō Line, including Kōyodo Station, ceased operations on April 1, 2018.
Station History
Kōyodo Station first opened its doors to passengers in 1963. For over five decades, it served the local community, connecting residents to other parts of the region via the Sankō Line. Its closure in 2018 marked the end of an era for many small stations along the line, as the railway system adapted to changing demographics and transportation needs.
Travel Tips
Although Kōyodo Station is now closed, the area around Miyoshi still offers natural beauty and a glimpse into rural Japan. Visitors interested in the former Sankō Line can explore the remnants of the railway, and some sections may have been repurposed for other uses. Local buses might still serve the general vicinity, providing access to the scenic landscapes that the train once traversed.
