Location & Access
Kogawara Station is situated in the town of Tōhoku, within Aomori Prefecture, Japan. Specifically, it is located in the Ōura district, in the area known as Hiyamizu. The station serves as a gateway to the northern region, with the expansive Lake Ogawara (Ogawarako) stretching out nearby. While the station itself is unstaffed, its convenient location makes it a useful stop for exploring the natural beauty of the area.
Railway Lines
The station is operated by the third-sector railway operator Aoimori Railway Company and is a key stop on the Aoimori Railway Line. It features two side platforms and is an at-grade structure. From Kogawara, travelers can head towards Misawa in the direction of Metoki, or towards Kamikitachō in the direction of Aomori, connecting them to various destinations across the prefecture.
Station History
Kogawara Station first opened its doors on June 10, 1953. Interestingly, the station's name, "Kogawara," derives from the former name of the nearby lake, which was once known as Ogawarako (小川原沼, Kogawarako). Although the lake's name was officially changed to Ogawarako (小川原湖) on January 1, 1958, the station retained its original name and pronunciation, creating a unique historical link between the station and its surroundings.
Travel Tips
As an unstaffed station, it's advisable for travelers to check train schedules and ticket information in advance. The proximity to Lake Ogawara makes it an ideal starting point for those interested in outdoor activities or simply enjoying the scenic views of the lake.
