The station is primarily operated by the Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku) and is a key stop on the Dosan Line. Notably, the station numbering for the Dosan Line splits at Kōchi Station, with 'D' numbers for services towards Awa-Ikeda, Kotohira, and Tadotsu, and 'K' numbers for services towards Ino, Susaki, and Kubokawa. In addition to JR Shikoku services, trains from the Tosa Kuroshio Railway Gomen-Nahari Line also originate and terminate at Kōchi Station, providing connections to the eastern coast of Kōchi Prefecture.

Station History

Kōchi Station first opened its doors on November 15, 1924. A significant modernization occurred on February 26, 2008, when the station building was elevated, and automatic ticket gates were installed – a first for a JR Shikoku station at that time. This upgrade marked a new era of convenience for passengers.
