Location & Access
Kanmonkaikyō Mekari Station is nestled in the Moji ward of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Its unique name is derived from its prime location adjacent to the picturesque Kanmon Straits and within the beautiful Mekari Park. This makes it a fantastic starting or ending point for exploring the natural beauty and historical significance of the area. The station is easily accessible, serving as the terminus for the Mojikō Retro Scenic Line.
Railway Lines
This charming station is a key stop on the Mojikō Retro Scenic Line, a heritage railway operated by the Heisei Chikuhō Railway. It holds the distinction of being the northernmost train station on the island of Kyushu. The line is exclusively served by a single four-car passenger train, affectionately named the Shiokaze (潮風号), which translates to "Sea Breeze."
Travel Tips
The Shiokaze train operates seasonally, typically between March and November. For most of this period, services are limited to weekends and holidays, with some exceptions. There are eleven round-trip services per day, running at convenient 40-minute intervals. Tickets can be purchased at the Mekari Station General Information Center located next to the station. Given its scenic location and limited operating schedule, planning your visit in advance is highly recommended to fully enjoy the experience.
