Location & Access
Kaji Station (加治駅, Kaji eki) is situated in the city of Shibata, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Specifically, it is located in Shimonaka, Shibata. While historically serving as the central station for the former Kajikawa Village (Kaji Village at the time of its establishment), boundary changes during the Showa-era mergers meant the station grounds straddled the municipal border between Shibata City and the former Kajikawa Village. Today, it remains an important local hub for residents and visitors to the area.
Railway Lines
The station is operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and is a key stop on the Uetsu Main Line. It is positioned 30.3 km from Niitsu Station. From Kaji, passengers can travel towards Shibata (and further to Niitsu) or in the opposite direction towards Akita. The station features one island platform and two tracks, facilitating smooth train operations along this vital regional line.
Station History
Kaji Station officially opened its doors on June 1, 1914. Its establishment was significant for the local community, particularly for the former Kajikawa Village, where it served as the primary transportation hub. Despite subsequent administrative boundary changes, the station has continued its role in connecting the region for over a century.
Travel Tips
As an unstaffed station, travelers should be aware that there may not be personnel available for ticket purchases or assistance. It is advisable to check train schedules and ticket information in advance, especially for those unfamiliar with the local railway system. Kaji Station provides a convenient access point for exploring the Shibata area and its surrounding natural beauty.
