Kagaonsen Station is strategically located in Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture, making it the primary gateway to the renowned Kaga Onsenkyo hot spring resorts. From the station, travelers can easily access various hot spring areas via connecting local bus services. It serves as the central and representative station for Kaga City.
Railway Lines
The station is a significant interchange, serving both the Hokuriku Shinkansen and the IR Ishikawa Railway Line. While the Shinkansen platforms are elevated, the IR Ishikawa Railway operates at-grade. Previously, under the Hokuriku Main Line, Kagaonsen was the most frequently served station by express trains within Kaga City. Since March 16, 2024, the section of the Hokuriku Main Line between Kanazawa and Tsuruga, including Kagaonsen Station, was transferred to IR Ishikawa Railway.
Station History
Opened on October 11, 1944, the station was originally known as Sakumi Station until 1970. It has undergone significant development, particularly with the arrival of the Hokuriku Shinkansen on March 16, 2024, further solidifying its role as a vital transportation hub in the region.
