Location & Access

Izumma Station (出馬駅, Izumma-eki) is nestled in the scenic Tenryū-ku district of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Located specifically in Sakuma-cho Urakawa, this unstaffed station offers a glimpse into rural Japanese railway travel. While its remote location means fewer passengers, it provides a unique experience for those exploring the Iida Line.

Railway Lines

The station is a stop on the Iida Line, operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central). It lies 55.4 km from the starting point of the line at Toyohashi. Interestingly, the Iida Line crosses the border between Aichi and Shizuoka prefectures between Izumma and Toei Station, with the section up to Kowada Station passing through Shizuoka Prefecture. Izumma Station is also notable for having the shortest distance between stations on the Iida Line, with only 0.6 km separating it from Kamiichiba Station. However, due to a curve in the tracks and a cutting, Kamiichiba Station is not visible from Izumma.

Station History

Izumma Station officially opened its doors on November 11, 1934, connecting the local communities along the Iida Line. Despite its long history, the station remains unstaffed, reflecting the low passenger numbers. In fiscal year 2017, the station recorded an average of just 2 daily passengers, leading to one northbound local train bypassing the station due to the very low usage. It is also recognized as a 'difficult-to-read' station name (難読駅名).

Travel Tips

For travelers seeking an authentic, off-the-beaten-path Japanese experience, Izumma Station offers a quiet retreat. Be aware that due to its low usage, some trains may pass through without stopping. Always check the latest train schedules before planning your visit. The station's remote charm and its unique railway characteristics make it a point of interest for railway enthusiasts and those looking to explore the less-traveled parts of Shizuoka Prefecture.
