Location & Access
Isurugi Station is situated in Oyabe, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, and is operated by the third-sector railway operator Ainokaze Toyama Railway. It holds the distinction of being the main station for Oyabe City and the westernmost railway station within Toyama Prefecture. A unique feature of the station building is the integrated Oyabe City Library, offering a convenient cultural hub for travelers and locals alike.
Railway Lines
The station primarily serves the Ainokaze Toyama Railway Line, located 6.8 km from Kurikara. It features one side platform and one island platform, providing access to three tracks. The station is staffed, ensuring assistance for passengers. Before the Hokuriku Shinkansen's opening on March 14, 2015, Isurugi Station was part of the JR West Hokuriku Main Line, with some limited express trains like Thunderbirds, Shirasagis, Hokuetsus, and Hakutakas making stops here. Historically, it also served as the starting point for the Kaetsuno Railway Kaetsu Line.
Station History
Isurugi Station first opened its doors on November 1, 1898. A significant renovation saw the new station building and a north-south free passage become operational on November 27, 2018. The integrated Oyabe City Library, built on the site of the old station building, was completed and opened for use on March 26, 2020, after initial announcements in 2015 projected an earlier completion.
