Location & Access
Ichitana Station is situated in Nobeoka, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. This station holds a unique geographical position as it is both the easternmost and northernmost station within Miyazaki Prefecture. It also marks the point where the prefectural border between Oita and Miyazaki Prefectures, as well as the JR Kyushu branch office boundary (between Oita and Miyazaki branches), lies between Ichitana and the adjacent Sotaro Station. The station itself is unstaffed and features an island platform accessible by a footbridge.
Railway Lines
The station is served by the Nippō Main Line, operated by JR Kyushu. It is located 238.5 km from the line's starting point at Kokura. While it once saw a variety of train services, including those using 475 series, 717 series, and KiHa 220 series trains, current services are limited. As of the March 2018 timetable revision, only three local trains (two northbound, one southbound) stop here, utilizing 4-car 787 series limited express trains, though only the first car is available for passengers.
Travel Tips
For travelers using the Seishun 18 Kippu (a special rail pass), Ichitana Station is part of the notoriously challenging 'Sotaro Pass' section due to its extremely infrequent train services and limited operating hours. This makes careful planning essential for those traversing this scenic but remote part of the Nippō Main Line.
