Location & Access
Ichinomiya Station (K08) is situated in Ichinomiyachō, Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, and is a key stop on the Kotoden Kotohira Line. This line, operated by the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad, connects Takamatsu-Chikkō Station in Takamatsu with Kotoden-Kotohira Station in Kotohira. The station is unique in Japan as it's the only 'Ichinomiya Station' not prefixed by a former province name or shrine name.
Railway Lines
The primary service at Ichinomiya Station is the Kotoden Kotohira Line, easily identifiable by its yellow line color. Some trains on the Kotohira Line terminate and turn back at Ichinomiya Station. The station also offers IruCa card services, including sales and commuter pass renewals, and is designated as a stop where passengers can break their journey.
Station History
Historically, Ichinomiya Station was notable for not having automatic ticket vending machines, a rarity for a directly managed station of the company, with hard tickets sold at a manned window. Following the application of the Civil Rehabilitation Act, these were replaced by simpler pole-type machines as part of rationalization efforts. Currently, these have been upgraded to barrier-free, large-scale ticket vending machines, similar to those found at Busshozan Station and considered more advanced than those at Kawaramachi Station.
Travel Tips
Ichinomiya Station is equipped with signal control facilities within its main building. The Kotohira Line has reserved land for double-tracking up to this station, indicating potential future expansion. For travelers using the IruCa smart card, the station provides convenient services. Its unique name among other 'Ichinomiya' stations across Japan makes it a point of interest for railway enthusiasts.
