Station History
Opened on October 11, 1921, Hyūgashi Station was originally known as Tomitaka Station until 1963. The current station building, a distinctive timber-steel hybrid structure, was completed in 2008. Designed by Naito Architecture & Associates, it functions not only as a modern train station but also as a symbolic landmark for the city of Hyūga.
