Hyūga-Sumiyoshi Station opened its doors on December 15, 1913. Interestingly, it was known by the name Jirogabyū until October 1, 1935. A notable historical connection is that from 1917 to 1929, the Sumiyoshi Village-operated handcar railway was connected to this station, highlighting its long-standing role in local transportation.
