Hosoura Station (細浦駅) was formerly a railway station situated in Ōfunato, a city within Iwate Prefecture, Japan. While the original railway structures were tragically lost, the area is now served by a provisional Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line, which effectively replaces the former Ōfunato Line railway service. This BRT stop is specifically located in Suetsakicho, Ōfunato.
Railway Lines
Originally, Hosoura Station was an integral part of the JR East Ōfunato Line. This line connected various communities, with Shimofunato as the preceding station towards Sakari and Otomo as the following station towards Ichinoseki. Today, the Ōfunato Line BRT continues to provide essential transportation links for residents and visitors, albeit in a different format.
Station History
Hosoura Station first opened its doors to passengers in 1933, serving the Ōfunato Line for many decades. However, its existence as a railway station came to an abrupt end on March 11, 2011, when the devastating Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami struck. The station, along with much of the surrounding infrastructure, was completely destroyed by the natural disaster. In the aftermath, JR East implemented the Ōfunato Line BRT as a replacement service, ensuring continued connectivity for the affected communities.
